Who is Jeremy Bickerstaffe?

I am a specialist in the field of agile software development.

Background

I enjoy working at the intersection of people, technology, and business. Throughout my career I have had a strong interest in software, and most recently worked managing software teams. I can understand people working in every part of a company, and help them work together to create better products. I have a solid background of technical and engineering roles in building design and scientific product development.

Professional Experience

2018 – 2020 Scrum Master, Owlstone Medical

I was Owlstone’s first Scrum Master, and played a pivotal role in helping the organisation switch to agile development processes. I mentored numerous teams to improve working practices and culture.

2015 – 2018 Systems Engineer, Owlstone Medical

Medical systems work – System design and documentation for Owlstone’s proprietary breath collection and analysis hardware, including thermal design, system architecture, user interface design.

Defence systems work – Development of Owlstone’s proprietary FAIMS detection systems for defence clients. Work included on site support, and editing complex bid documentation for large projects.

2008 – 2015 Technology Consultant, Sagentia

During my time at Sagentia I conducted early stage scientific concept design and proof of principle work for numerous clients in the USA, UK, and Europe, across the Medical, Consumer, and Industrial sectors. Working with diverse clients under technical standards including ISO 13485, IEC 60601, IEC 62304.

2002 – 2007 Building Services Engineer, Max Fordham LLP

Design and construction oversight of mechanical and electrical building services for prestige buildings in the arts, education, and cultural sectors. Projects where I played a significant role include Salisbury Arts Centre, The Leys Music School, Nottingham University Institute for Biomolecular Sciences Phase 2, several Cambridge colleges, and Surestart children’s nurseries in London and Folkestone.
